all of us heard the news about HTC Hero getting official upgrade for Android 2.0 platform. even the official HTC twitter account verified this when they tweeted about this possible upgrade last month. however now it appears like HTC has much better plans for its Hero owners. According the news published by BGR, HTC is working on getting the next generation Android 2.1 upgrade for HTC Hero. This might potentially mean that the plans for getting Android 2.0 on Hero may have been abandoned all together.

The screenshots you see above shows HTC Hero running Android 2.1 with the new sense UI, specially designed for this upcoming upgrade to Android platform. No word on the release date though, you can alteast be sure that it may not be as well long before you can enjoy all the goodies on your Hero that is available in Android 2.x, like universal inbox as well as Google Maps with Navigation for example.
