a lot of headphones as well as speakers utilize electromagnetic force to drive speaker coils. Electrostatic speakers utilize electrostatic force to modulate a diaphragm. Mylar is utilized as the diaphragm in these headphones. two insulating rings sandwich the mylar as well as a perforated stator is put on either side. ideally these stators would be acoustically transparent, however sheets of metal with 2mm (or smaller) holes that comprise at least 25% of the area work. building issues can arise from glue not staying with the mylar as well as the mylar having not sufficient or as well much tension. A special amp has to be developed for the headphones to produce a 450V difference between the stators.
