LCD: REPLACING CCFL WITH LEDS

[Fileark] had the backlight on his digital photo frame go out one day. These are normally chilly Cathode Fluorescent Lamps which need an inverter to source the voltage needed for appropriate operation. When they stop working, the inverter is normally to blame. considering that that circuit is made up of quite little surface install circuitry, he made a decision to replace the backlight with LEDs rather than repair work the inverter.

In the video after the break [Fileark] will walk with the entire project. After snooping around inside the photo frame he sizes up a strip of LEDs on a versatile substrate. The metal retaining bracket that holds the LCD need to be modified to in shape the new light source as well as for that, he’s included a hacking montage in his video. The final result looks stock as well as he estimates the screen is around 97% as bright just like the original backlight.

This isn’t the very first time we’ve seen an LED edge-lit upgrade. The last one we saw even utilized a custom-made PCB to hold the LEDs.
